DO BAIRRO
With Criativos do Bairro, Avenues’ students in Social Innovation were granted a priceless opportunity: applying theory to real life. The design thinking method they are taught inside the classroom accompanied them to neighboring communities Real Parque and Jardim Panorama to collaborate with local students in aiding locally based NGOs, such as Ludovico Pavoni.
This institution’s challenge – a court that had no cover to shelter it from sun and rain – was brought to their attention through Rede Real Panorama, an online network of NGOs present in the area. Together, they decided that this is where they wanted to apply part of the funds previously raised at a school fair. And the project was properly approved by parents’ association PACE. It’s a perfect example of interconnectedness.
“We live off donations, the repair wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Avenues’ students, teachers and parents, but the students’ exchange is the most fruitful end-product of this project”, sums up Deborah Restivo, coordinator at Ludovico. The NGO offers an afterschool program for local kids based on Christian values. Due to the Covid 19 quarantine, the court is yet to be inaugurated. The kids can hardly wait.
